    Main areas of work:

    • Implementation of radiological control over facilities controlled by the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection (SSUFSCP).
    • Carrying out radiological examinations in accordance with the annual Plan for state monitoring of residues of veterinary drugs and contaminants in live animals and unprocessed food products of animal origin.
    • Implementation of initiative research work “Radiological monitoring and improvement of methods for determining the content of radionuclides (137Cs, 90Sr) in raw materials and products of animal and plant origin”.
    • Methodical support of the work of radiological departments of SSUFSCP’s state
    • Approbation of new methods and means of radionuclide determination.
    • Participation in international and national rounds of interlaboratory comparative studies for external quality control of radiological studies.
    • Coordination (organization and delivery) of rounds of interlaboratory comparative tests within the framework of the VET-TEST qualification testing program for determination of radiological indicators.
    • Advanced training of specialists in radiology departments of SSUFSCP’s state laboratories.
    • Development of regulatory and methodological documentation on radiological research in the field of veterinary medicine.
    • Conducting arbitration studies to determine radiological parameters.
    • Ensuring the functioning of the civil protection system at the institute and summarizing the reports of the radiology departments of SSUFSCP’s regional state laboratories.

    Research Radiological Department is equipped with modern spectrometric, radiometric and dosimetric equipment and conducts radiological research (tests) of food products, feed, water, etc., for compliance with:

    • GN 6.6.1.1-130-2006 “Acceptable levels of 137Cs and 90Sr radionuclides in food and potable water”;
    • Radiation safety standards of Ukraine;
    • DSTU, technical conditions, methodical instructions.

    According to the scope of accreditation the Research Radiology Department performs the following research:

    • test of food, feed, water, etc. to determine radionuclides 134Cs, 137Cs, 90Sr using spectrometric method;
    • measuring the power of the absorbed dose of external gamma radiation in the air of buildings and premises;
    • determination of the specific activity of radionuclides by gamma radiation in medicinal raw materials (substance) used for the manufacture of drugs (Cs-137);
    • determination of the specific activity of radionuclides by gamma radiation in the soil (Cs-137);
    • determination of the specific activity of radionuclides by gamma radiation in wood and wood products (Cs-137);
    • determination of the specific activity of radionuclides by gamma radiation in building materials, mineral raw materials, porcelain, clay products (Ra-226, Th-232, K-40);
    • determination of the specific activity of radiocaesium-137 in the muscle tissue of farm animals in vivo;
    • Background radiation measurement.

    Package of documents for registration of the service “Measurement of the absorbed dose rate of external gamma radiation in the air of houses and premises”.
